Accessibility

It’s really important to us at The Writing School Online to make our digital retreats as accessible as possible.

We actively welcome and tailor our retreats to all participants, including those living with disability, neurodivergence, and/or a learning difference, as well as those with physical limitations. We use Zoom's live captioning service to provide real-time transcriptions of sessions and screenshare all poems as routine.

We record each session, solely for the use of those poets who might live in a different time zone, those who need to look after their energy levels, and/or those who might need to miss a session for any reason. To keep our space within each session safe and confidential, the recordings will only be shared with those in the group who need them. We’ll also delete these recordings at the end of the course.

We recognise that some participants may prefer to keep their camera off at times and/or to use the Chat feature to add to the discussion, speak to other participants, and ask questions. You can also use the Chat function to send a direct message to Ewan if you need assistance with anything while workshops are in progress. Each workshop will include a comfort break about half-way through.

Those on mean-tested benefits, ESA or PIP can apply for a fully-funded scholarship place on any of our retreats. These are awarded on a competitive basis and the application process for these is very simple.

Contact ewan@thewritingschool.co.uk with any queries. We welcome feedback on making these retreats as hospitable and fuss-free as possible for all our participants.
